Hi.

Welcome to There V Goes: A Guide To Experiencing The World. I hope it inspires you to go experience the world!

2018 Travel Hot List

2018 Travel Hot List

I have a lengthy list of where I want to take There V Goes but since this is my first post I wanted to share the list of destinations that are on my radar now.

On cold northeastern weekends early in the new year I can be found on my couch researching and prioritizing destinations I want to visit during the year.  An obsession for experiencing the world for certain!   Now a days, it seems that every website, newspaper, podcast, and magazine has their list of must visit destinations for the coming year; and every year these lists seem to get longer and longer.  How can one make a decision on their vacation when they need to choose among the 100 top places to visit in the coming year?

So in an effort to manage expectations (ie. my husband's expectations as he still has to approve my list) I've put together my list of the top 9 places I want to visit this year.  Trust me, it was pared down drastically!

  1. Valle Guadalupe, Mexico: Lesser known on the east coast but a great long weekend destination just south of San Diego for some fantastic wine and food.  Stay tuned for a post on Valle G soon!
  2. Fogo Island Inn: The community focused mentality of Fogo Island attracts me the most.  When you stay at the Inn, included in your stay is a community host visit which could include activities such as going cod fishing or canning jams with the locals.  Pack ice season when the glaciers start breaking and melting appeals to me the most.
  3. Georgia (The Eastern European Country): Hearty food, wine, mountain vistas, and a great exchange rate.  Particularly I'm interested in visiting the Rooms Hotel in the Caucasus Mountains.
  4. Banff National Park: Canada travel seems to be everywhere right now.  Day hikes, lake views, and cooler air perfect for a late summer escape from the city heat.
  5. Slovenia: Being called the latest foodie destination in addition to some major Instagrammable landscapes.
  6. Vancouver Island: Surfing, hiking, and beautiful landscapes easily accessible from Seattle or Vancouver.
  7. Rwanda: One word: Gorillas!
  8. Estonia:  Estonia is one of those places people have heard of but there's very little resources online for planning a trip.  My husband's family is from Estonia, so we're planning a visit early in the holiday season which will be the first time his father has been back since he fled Estonia and emigrated to the US when he was a boy.
  9. Sweden: Cold weather destinations are clearly pretty hot right now.  Partially, I think it's because people are desperate to be able to get off the grid and being in the middle of nowhere achieves that goal.
