In my opinion, one of the best things to come out of the pandemic are Manhattan restaurants developing new revenue streams and offering dinner kits.

Even more exciting, as someone who lives in Westchester County is the fact that a lot of these places now deliver to Westchester and the rest of the tri-state area!
This opportunity has allowed us to continue to support restaurants, avoid cooking burnout, and try new experiences- stimuli I miss not being able to travel like I did pre-covid.

Below I’ve reviewed several options available in the New York metro area.  Bon Appetit!

Momofuku Saam Bar

http://momofuku.com/nationwide-shipping/

Saam Bar has partnered with Baldor to deliver Saam Dinner kits- in both pork and sausage stuffed duck.   The kit comes with everything you would get at the Momofuku restaurants including steam buns, Korean chili sauce, ginger-scallion sauce, Napa cabbage kimchi, Bibb lettuce, and an herb bundle (Thai basil, mint, cilantro).  For leftovers, they give you a fried rice sauce kit and cooked Jasmine rice. The next day we used the leftover duck to make duck fried rice and mushroom steam buns.  It was really a fun way to spend a Saturday night!

Misi  (MP New York)

https://www.mpnewyork.nyc/

Lillia may not have a Michelin star- but it deserves one! Misi is pretty much on repeat at our house, as we get a weekend delivery every other week.  Pasta kits, pre-seasoned meats, gelato, and cocktails and wine are in constant rotation.  At this point we’ve basically on tried the entire menu!  Missy Robbins classics like Mafadini with pink peppercorns, ricotta stuffed cannelloni, and my personal favorite mezze rigatoni arrive paired with varied sauces (30 clove garlic, pork sugo, and classic pomodoro) all come with directions for you to make at home.   Do not miss the marinated artichokes, raab, or shrooms. For meat lovers, the meatballs, porchetta, and a 32-ounce porterhouse steak come pre-seasoned and ready to be popped into the oven.  We had the porterhouse on New Years Eve and I can’t wait to get it again!  Recently, they have begun a wine pairing program for those looking to enhance their experience.   Cocktails are also well made arrive in tiny glass bottles that we’ve been reusing constantly.

Eleven Madison Park (EMP)

https://www.exploretock.com/elevenmadisonpark/

Our EMP delivery was something special.  We ordered the EMP chicken dinner for my birthday and it really is a special dish and I am forever changed (lol).  The dinner kit’s focal point is the whole organic D’artigan chicken with foie gras, truffles, and brioche stuffed under the skin.   Accompanying the chicken are pureed potatoes with onion and melting leeks, oyster mushrooms, and a winter greens salad with tarragon vinaigrette.   If you still have room in your stomach after that feast, the kit also comes with dessert- in this case, a whole hazelnut tart with a caramel center.   The kit serves 4, but my husband and I got several meals out of this kit.   Icing on the cake, is your order also allows for 30 in-need people to receive meals.

Blue Hill

https://www.exploretock.com/bluehillatstonebarns/

Blue Hill started meal kits last March- initially as an experiment to see if they could make it work and also help keep staff on salary.   And has it worked!  What initially was a singular soup kit, quickly grew to include organic, locally grown cuts of meat, breads, Stone Barns grown vegetables, eggs, breakfast kits, beef bourguignon’s with Blue Hill Stone Barns braised beets in addition to sustainable oyster and fish options.   Most recently, with their Chef in Residence program, we’ve been able to try a dinner kit that included West African dishes.   We may not be able to go to Africa- but Africa came to us!   Upcoming options will have Chilean themes, southwest, and northeastern America.   With this dinner kit, we got several meals out of it.
